Queen Margrethe’s 78th Birthday !

Today, Queen Margrethe is celebrating her 78th birthday! The whole family was reunited in Amalienborg Palace for the occasion. Only Crown Prince Frederik wasn’t there as he is on a private trip to Greenland.

At noon, the family went out on the Palace’s balcony to celebrate the Queen’s birthday with the crowd in front. Queen Margrethe always celebrates her birthday with a little ceremony on the balcony, it doesn’t always happen in Amalienborg Palace. Last year, it was celebrated at Marselisborg Palace.

Queen Margrethe first appeared on the main balcony on her own while the rest of the family were on their own balconies on the sides:

Afterward, the Queen was joined by her eight grandchildren on the main balcony:

Crown Princess Mary, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie joined them all for family photos at the end.

You can watch the video of the celebrations here (starting at the 13th minute).

Princess Marie wore her pink Alexander McQueen blazer she first wore in 2015 with a white ruffled top. She first wore the top in the video she recorded for the new teaching materials about food waste she inaugurated last week.

I can’t be sure as we haven’t fully seen the top but I believe it is from the SS18 collection from Tara Jarmon.

She also wore her Christine Hvelplund necklace with an old family heirloom that she particularly likes. It is the Queen Alexandrine Diamond and Sapphire pendant brooch that she often wears as a brooch.

We will next see Princess Marie next Monday as she attends the SIKON Conference 30th anniversary celebrations as Patron of the Danish Association for Autism.
