Princess Marie attended the official launch event of the cookbook “Food with Respect” in Copnhagen. The book aims to help families avoid food waste. Here is the press release from the publishing house:

Denmark’s biggest enthusiast against food waste, well-known chefs and Her Royal Highness Princess Marie of Denmark have teamed up for a new cookbook against food waste, which has been published recently. The cookbook aims to inspire families to greater respect for food, save time and money and at the same time help the environment.
Every year, over 700,000 tonnes of good and edible food are thrown away in Denmark. The biggest food wasters are the households, and especially families with children face the greatest challenge to use up all the food. Every year, an average Danish family wastes food worth of 7,200 DKK – equivalent to 964 Euro or 1,077 USD.
Tangible and easy tools are needed  to help families to avoid food waste and to put the trash bin on a diet. That’s why the Founder of Stop Wasting Food movement Selina Juul has brought together some of Denmark’s most dedicated food waste fighters: Her Royal Highness Princess Marie of Denmark, renowned TV chef Timm Vladimir, food entrepreneur Anh Lê, gastronomic superstars Francis Cardenau and Michel Michaud as well as cookbook author Louisa Lorang. Together, they have written a useful and simple cookbook with focus on food waste, “Food with respect – A family cookbook which reduces food waste”, which is being published at the Gyldendal publishing house today.
All the recipes in the book are based on food products, which are among the most wasted types of food in the Danish households. “Food with respect – A family cookbook which reduces food waste”, also provides guidance for storing leftovers, smart meal planning and food shopping – altogether in order to reduce food waste.
The book’s total 80 recipes have been prepared by the aforementioned contributors. Her Royal Highness Princess Marie of Denmark has written the book’s foreword and contributes with own recipes.
“Our cookbook “Food with respect – A family cookbook which reduces food waste” will give Danish families good, easy and hands-on tools to become better at utilizing food, saving money and helping the environment,” says Selina Juul and continues:
“The book is a great dish of good advices, recipes, tips and suggestions on how a family can become even better at using all the food. Avoiding food waste is about showing more respect for food – and for the whole gigantic process, which provides for food on our plates. ”
Each sold copy of ”Food with respect – A family cookbook which reduces food waste” triggers a donation to DanChurchAid.

This past week, you had the opportunity to learn more on the blog about Princess Marie’s work in the fight against food waste as well as her work as Patron of DanChurchAid. Princess Marie also gave an interview to Jutland’s major newspapers.

Earlier today, the Danish court shared a photo of Princess Marie and her children Prince Henrik and Princess Athena from the book.

It looks like Princess Marie was wearing her Polo Ralph Lauren shirt.

The Court also shared an extract of the foreword Princess Marie wrote:

Princess Marie was welcomed at the publishing house Gyldendal by Selina Juul and both of them posed outside the building with the chefs.

Here is a short video of the event courtesy of Lars Laursen. We can see that Princess Marie was joined by Charles-Henri Keller.

You can check out the Stop Wasting Food Movement’s tips to avoid food waste here.

Marie wore an old black UFO jacket with a new green dress by Maje. The ‘Romea’ dress features a handkerchief hem with long sleeves and a roundneck. She paired it with the Ba&Sh black belt she debuted earlier this year.

She carried an old UFO black clutch and wore her Jimmy Choo ‘Romy’ black suede pumps.

It looks like she also debuted a new pair of earrings.

This event marks the return to regular official events for Princess Marie and we’ll see her twice tomorrow as well as twice on Thursday. However, a special post related to the launch of the cookbook will also go live on Thursday. Once it’s out, I will explain how it happened and why it was so significant to me as a blogger but until then, any guesses? (and no, it’s not an interview with Princess Marie, I probably wouldn’t have been able to keep it a secret for so long if it was!)

Thank you to Simon Knudsen for providing the photos of today’s events. There are affiliate links in this post.

  1. This is a great initiative. The book sounds fantastic. I wholeheartly agree with the Princesses comments on the wastage of food. The chapter on recipes for left overs will be very insightful, I personally can struggle with that sometimes, wondering what I can turn a leftover into!. The Princess looks lovely in green
