Today, Princess Marie opened the new WeFood store in Copenhagen as Patron of DanChurchAid. Read more below.
DanChurchAid’s first WeFood store was opened by Princess Marie in Copenhagen in 2016 and since then, the foundation opened two more in Copenhagen and in Aarhus. Today, they opened the fourth one with Princess Marie in attendance once again.
Wefood is a food waste supermarket that sells items that many conventional supermarkets discard. Out of season items have exceeded the best-before date or where the packaging is broken or has errors. The stores are run by volunteers and the profits go to DanChurchAid’s work in the world’s poorest countries.
During her visit, Princess Marie had the opportunity to tour the store and meet with the volunteers.
She also received on behalf of DanChurchAid, a a check of DKK 3.41 million. kroner (around $500000) from the Salling Funds, which owns the Salling Group, Danmark’s largest retail company. The money will go to the opening of two new Wefood stores in Funen and Jutland. The Salling Group helped develop Wefood back in 2015, and over the years the Group has been a regular supplier of surplus goods. This year alone, Salling Group has donated more than 80 tons of goods to the Wefood stores.
Marie wore the same outfit as earlier today for her AIDS-Fondet meeting: a black turtleneck, navy pants and her Zara ankle boots. She wore her Goat ‘Redgrave’ navy coat over her outfit.
