Tonight, the first tiara event of the year took place at Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen. Read more below.

The gala takes place each year and the royal family, as well as the Government, the President of Parliament, representatives and members of the court, attend. We took a look at Princess Marie’s outfits the previous years yesterday on Tumblr and you can check it out here.

Last night, Queen Margrethe made her traditional New Year’s Eve speech. You can read it here and watch it below. About Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, she said: “Prince Joachim and Princess Marie together with their two children are in Paris, where Prince Joachim is receiving additional training at the French military academy. At the same time, I have enjoyed watching his talks about Danish history on TV. I knew he would be good at it.”
For the first time in many years, Princess Benedikte attended the gala dinner alongside the rest of the Danish royal family. The Court hasn’t commented on her attendance. Prince Joachim and Princess Marie arrived after Princess Benedikte at Amalienborg Palace. All the members of the Royal Family wore the necklace of the Order of the Elephant, the highest Danish order. You can see a video of the arrivals here.

Princess Marie wore the Henrik Hviid navy gown she wore to her first New Year Gala Dinner in 2009 while pregnant with Prince Henrik. I really love that we’re seeing that gown again!

She also wore a very interesting hair pin but I can’t say more about it until we have better photos of it. She carried the same clutch she debuted in 2009 and it is still UFO. She also wore burgundy suede pumps that she first wore in 2015 for the Dutch State Visit to Denmark.

What did you think of Marie’s outfit? Prince Joachim and Princess Marie as well as their children will go back to Paris, France in the coming days. They don’t have any official engagements scheduled in January so far and I don’t expect that to change for Prince Joachim but Princess Marie might have events in France and In Denmark later in the month.
