Princess Marie travelled with the DanChurchAid team and Charles-Henri Keller to Uganda yesterday ahead of the start of the visit today. General Secretary of DanChurchAid, Birgitte Qvist-Sørensen, said: “We look forward to introducing Princess Marie to some of our work in Uganda and to giving the Princess a greater insight into the challenges facing the country. In particular, climate change and extreme weather are a serious problem in the region, and green and sustainable solutions are needed. Otherwise, we risk even more people starving when the fall fails. ”

Princess Marie only had one official event scheduled today but she first attended an unannounced event in the morning. Princess Marie visited DanChurchAid’s office to attend an information and security meeting. She was welcomed by Country Manager Peter Bo Larsen. She toured the office and then attended the two hours briefing.

At the end of the meeting, Peter Bo Larsen announced that he had backpacks made for each person travelling in the country during the trip, including members of the media, and filled them with the necessary items needed for travelling. Princess Marie’s bag says “HRH Princess Marie” but she joked that “Marie” would have worked just fine. Billed-Bladet also reports that before leaving, Princess Marie posed for photos with all the staff at the main office before giving a spontaneous and personal speech and then walking around to each and thanking them for their work.

Afterward, she visited the Raising Gabdho Foundation in Kampala. The Foundation works in collaboration with DanChurchAid to ensure that environmental and natural resources are protected and reused for the benefit of refugees in Uganda among other things. They have three strategic program areas to help the communities reach that goal : Clean Energy, Innovation and Livelihood. During her visit, Princess Marie learned more about the foundation’s work and the techniques they developed to cook in a more sustainable way.
