Yesterday, Princess Marie spent her fourth day in Uganda as Patron of DanChurchAid, she was back in Kampala for the day. Read more below.
Princess Marie’s fourth day in Uganda started with a meeting with young climate activists including Vanessa Nakate. You might have heard about Vanessa Nakate as during the Davos forum in January she was cropped out of a photo with other climate activists including Greta Thunberg by AP. About the scandal, Princess Marie told Vanessa : “I thought it was really stupid. I can’t imagine it was made on purpose but they should have thought about it. I can tell you we heard about you, we heard your voice, we heard about you and you have a strong voice”. Vanessa said she was very excited to meet Marie as she had never met a princess before and that it was “so inspiring and motivating to have a chat with her.” She also said : “The princess told me she thought it was really unfair that I was cut out, and it was very, very good for me to hear that someone like her actually knew I existed. She also told me that I was very powerful and very inspiring regardless of what had happened.”
During the meeting, Princess Marie also planted a mango tree she was gifted the day before alongside Vanessa, Leyna, Bonita and Karen. There was several touching moments for Princess Marie as each girl showed their talents. Vanessa explained the impact climate change has on Uganda saying “The great media attention has given me a greater international voice and it has allowed me to focus on the challenges we face in this part of the world. Climate change has really big consequences for many people in Uganda. This is especially true of families who do not already have much and who depend on their farming. When the harvest is devastated by drought or when the village is flooded, children and adults must starve and many are forced to move from their homes.”Princess Marie told her that it is something she had witnessed a lot during her trip.
Karen, who is 11 years old, read a poem she wrote called “My Beautiful Field” which talks about her beautiful field who is going to disappear because of climate change. At the end of the poem, Karen says “you and I will probably find a solution” which made Princess Marie very emotional.
Princess Marie was also gifted two books for children about climate change written by Bonita who is 15 years old. She wrote several children books and they are now used in school to teach children about climate change. Princess Marie was touched and said she would read them to her children. The first chapter is called “A Royal Friendship” and Princess Marie said it was fitting as they are all friends now. Finally, 8 years old Leyna sang a song to Princess Marie. Leyna finished second in the East Africa Got Talent competition last year. Princess Marie was again very touched and very surprised.
In the afternoon, Princess Marie attended a reception hosted by the Danish Ambassador to Denmark Nikolaj A. Hejberg Petersen in his official residence. Princess Marie was greeted by the ambassador’s two daughters and their dog Lilo which is the same breed as Princess Marie’s own dog Cerise.
For her meeting with the young climate activists, Princess Marie wore a new dress by french brand Ba&Sh. It is the Plaza dress in ecru. She paired the dress with her Peserico sneakers.
She wore her Versace sunglasses, Rolex watch, Christine Hvelplund Alphabet necklace and her Christine Hvelplund Fairytale small earrings.
For the reception, Princess Marie debuted a new dress by Diane von Furstenberg. The ‘Silas’ dress features a colorful floral print, bell sleeves, a v-neck and a ruched waist.
She also debuted new jewels by Van Cleef & Arpels. It is hard to say which exact pieces she’s wearing regarding the size without better photos but it looks like she wore the Long 20 Motifs Necklace and the Magic Alhambra earrings.
She paired the outfit with her Tod’s orange wedges, her old black clutch, her Rolex watch and her Christine Hvelplund Alphabet necklace.
