2021 Recap

2021 Year in Review: How much are Crown Princess Mary’s and Princess Marie’s 2021 wardrobes worth?

Just as we did in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020, let’s take a look at what Crown Princess Mary’s and Princess Marie’s new items were worth. Read more below.

I will focus on Crown Princess Mary first and then on Princess Marie but there is a big recap infographic at the end of the post including a 2017-2021 comparison.

Crown Princess Mary debuted 97 new items this year and as shown below, we have managed to identify 66 of those. The rest is still unidentified and is thus excluded from this count. Among the 66 items for which we have a brand, 7 were custom made and are also excluded from this count.

For the 59 items for which we have a full retail price, Crown Princess Mary’s total came to 50,719.59 € ($ 57,570.44 USD).  Her average price-per-piece was 859.65 € ($975.77 USD) which is slightly less than her 2020 average price-per-piece as you can see in the full overview at the end of the post. The most expensive piece for which we have a price is her Dulong Vega Diamond ring which cost 3,800€.

While she debuted 95 new items, Crown Princess Mary wore a lot of older pieces this year as shown in the graph below. These numbers follow the pattern she set in the past few years when she already repeated a lot of her outfits. Crown Princess Mary is very involved in sustainability in fashion and repeating outfits is a big part of that.

33,33% of the 66 items we managed to identify were from Danish brands in 2021. You can see a comparison with 2020 in the graph below.

Princess Marie debuted 35 new items this year and we managed to identify 28 of those. Obviously, because she is now living in Paris and because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Princess Marie worked less and thus had fewer opportunities to debut new pieces. Out of the 28 items we identified, 1 is excluded as there was no retail price available for it and we haven’t estimated a price.

Thus, for the 27 pieces we have a price for Princess Marie’s total came to 10,888.51€ ($12,325.14USD). Her average price-per-piece is 403.28 € ($456.49 USD). Her total and her average price-per-piece are lower than last year’s and that is explained by the fact that while she debuted more pieces this year, her most expensive new item in 2021 was her Giorgio Armani Plaid Print Jacket which cost 3,710€ (as opposed to last year’s Van Cleef & Arpels necklace which cost 15,000€).

Just like Crown Princess Mary, Princess Marie repeated a lot of pieces this year.

She also wore more international brands than Danish brands. It is interesting to note that 22,41% of these identified new items were from French brands. It is more than in previous years but the fact that she lives in Paris and most likely shops there more than she shops in Denmark is an important factor.

Here is a recap with an interesting average price-per-piece graph that might help put these numbers in perspective.
