About Princess Marie

Marie Agathe Odile Cavallier was born in Paris, France, to Alain Cavallier and Françoise Grassiot on February 6, 1976. She spent a significant part of her life in Geneva, Switzerland, after her parents divorce where she lived with her mother. She has four brothers: Benjamin and Gregory (from her mother’s previous marriage) and Charles and Édouard (from her father’s subsequent marriage).

The polygot (speaking French, Spanish, English, Italian and Danish) attended Marymount Manhattan College in New York City where she earned a Bachelor of Arts.

She married the younger son of Queen Margrethe of Denmark on May 24, 2008, after converting from Roman Catholicism to the Church of Denmark. They have two children: Prince Henrik and Princess Athena. She is the step mother to his two older children from his previous marriage: Princes Nikolai and Felix.
