2018 Recap: How much did Crown Princess Mary’s and Princess Marie’s 2018 wardrobes cost?

Just as we did in 2017, let’s take a look at what Crown Princess Mary’s and Princess Marie’s 2018 wardrobes cost. I will focus on Crown Princess Mary first and then on Princess Marie but there is a big recap infographic at the end of the post including a 2017-2018 comparison.

As shown in the days worked numbers that were published, Crown Princess Mary had a busy year. She debuted 170 new items this year and as shown below, we have managed to identify 127 of them. The rest is still unidentified and is thus excluded from this count.

Among the 127 items for which we have a brand, 22 were custom made and are thus also excluded from this count. There are 5 items included in the count for which we have an estimated price. To give a concrete example of what this means, Crown Princess Mary wore a Jesper Hovring jacket on December 6th that was available on Hovring’s website in another print. The jacket online retailed at 4,500 DKK and thus this is the estimated price of Mary’s jacket. We do not consider it to be the full price as Mary’s exact jacket isn’t available online but we estimate that it is a close price and thus gives more accuracy to the count.

For the 105 items for which we have either a full retail price or an estimated price, Crown Princess Mary’s total came to 15,974,858 DKK (=$114,349USD). The most expensive piece for which we have a price is a Tiffany & Co Pavé Diamond Flower Pendant which cost $8000USD.

While she debuted 170 new items, Crown Princess Mary wore a lot of older pieces as shown in the graph below.

Approximatively 1/3 of the 127 items we managed to identify were from a Danish brand in 2018. You can see a comparison with 2017 in the graph below.

Princess Marie debuted 96 new items this year and we managed to identify 65 of them. Out of these 65 items, 5 are excluded as they were custom made and we haven’t estimated a price for them. The other 60 pieces all have a full retail price.

For these 60 pieces, Princess Marie’s total came to 6,090,615.82 DKK (=$58,042USD). Her most expensive items this year are the trio of Christine Hvelplund jewels she wore for the concert for Crown Prince Frederik’s 50th birthday last May. The earrings and two bracelets she wore cost 166,800DKK (=$25,556USD) in total.

Just like Crown Princess Mary, Princess Marie repeated a lot of pieces this year.

She also wore more international brands than Danish brands. It is interesting to note that 30,4% of these identified new items by international brands were from French brands.

2018 Recap

2018 Recap: Princess Marie’s Fashion (New brands, Item of the Year, Brand of the Year and Debut of the year + a preview of the spending post!)

As part of our 2018 Recap, let’s take a look at Princess Marie’s Fashion this year. Tune in tomorrow for a special post about our wishes for Princess Marie’s 2019 fashion with very special guests.

New Brands:

Princess Marie debuted six new brands this year but two of them really stood out. Princess Marie wore six new items from Goat Fashion: three dresses including the Gaynor dress (pictured), one coat and a blouse (both owned by the Duchess of Cambridge) and a jumpsuit.

The second brand is Peserico Italy Princess Marie debuted the brand’s slip-on sneakers in June and wore the brand several times this year.

I have no doubts that we’ll see Princess Marie wearing Goat Fashion and Peserico in 2019.

Princess Marie also wore Ted Baker earlier this year, only wearing one item from the brand. I really hope Marie will wear more Ted Baker pieces next year.

She also debuted a very well-liked dress among royals, the Armonia dress by Raquel Diniz. Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Crown Princess Mary also own the shorter version of the dress in red.

The most exciting debut (for me) was Elie Saab at the gala dinner for Crown Prince Frederik’s 50th birthday on May 26th. If you have been following me for a long time, you’ll know that Elie Saab is my favorite designer so I was very pleased to see Marie wearing one of his gowns! Hopefully, she will wear his designs again in 2019!

Danish vs International Identified New Items:

Item of the Year:

Princess Marie’s Item of the Year is definitely her Jimmy Choo ‘Romy’ pumps. She bought 2 version of these pumps in 2017 ( the nude suede and the black glitter but she clearly loved them a lot because she debuted the black suede and the navy suede versions in 2018. She wore the Jimmy Choo ‘Romy’ pumps 19 times this year! These pumps are a classic and she owns enough versions of them to match every outfit so I’m certain we will see them again in 2019.

Brand of the Year:

Princess Marie’s Brand of the Year is no doubt Michael Kors. She had worn the brand before but only twice. This year however she debuted eight items from the brand. She loved the ‘Claire’ pumps as she wore them in red satin and in nude patent leather. She also wore a navy halter neck dress from the brand with the Claire pumps as pictured below on August 9th. I look forward to seeing more of Princess Marie wearing the brand in 2019!

Less Expensive New Item:

Princess Marie’s less expensive new items both come from Zara! They are the Burgundy Satin Pumps she debuted on April 24th and the Black Ankle Boots she first wore for her last event of the year on December 18th. Both cost €39.95 and the ankle boots are still available here.

Most Expensive New Items:

Her most expensive new items come from Christine Hvelplund and were worn at the concert hosted for Crown Prince Frederik’s 50th birthday on May 27th. Her new earrings and two new bracelets from her favorite jeweler retail at a total of DKK 166800 (=$25556).

Debut of the Year:

The Debut of the Year is unsurprisingly the Nuits Claires tiara Princess Marie debuted during the French State Visit to Denmark in August. You can read more about the tiara here.
