EXCLUSIVE: Princess Marie to attend Stop Wasting Food Movement’s dinner on November 13th + Catching up on her last event

I have an exciting news to share with you! With thanks to Selina Juul, the founder of the Stop Wasting Food Movement (Stop Spild Af Mad) for letting me be one of the first to know.

On November 13th, Princess Marie will be the guest of honor of a dinner hosted by the Stop Wasting Food Movement. The international Stop Wasting Food Dinner will be hosted by Selina Juul and the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Denmark Henk Swarttouw and will focus on the fight against food waste. In addition to Princess Marie, guests will include the Danish Minister for Environment and Food Jakob Ellemann-Jensen and high-level leaders from organizations and businesses. The hope is to make this dinner an annual tradition with a different embassy hosting each year.

The dinner’s main focus is to give the inspiration to achieve UN Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 which is to halve the global food waste by 2030. Selina Juul is a member of the Champions 12.3 coalition who are global ambassadors for the UN goal. Princess Marie has been focusing on the fight against food waste a lot in the past few years. She is now the Patron of the Better Food for More People – World Food Summit, she went to Washington DC last year to meet with the World Resources Institute, she gave TV interviews to Danish and international channels to promote the cause. This year alone, she helped launched new material focusing on food waste in schools, she opened the first Too Good To Go store in Denmark, she attended the World Food Summit and she visited the Danish Food Bank. The most memorable event related to food waste Princess Marie did this year though is when she hosted ten school children in her home to teach them about food waste.

About Princess Marie attending the dinner, Selina Juul said: “We are very thankful that H.R.H. Princess Marie will participate in our dinner against food waste – and we are very delighted for the Princess’ enthusiasm in the fight against food waste. Earlier this year in Stop Wasting Food, we had honor and pleasure to prepare a lunch with focusing on food waste at the Princess’ own home together with the Princess, the Princess’ children, and ten school children.”

The dinner will consist of a menu made out of surplus food and prepared by Dutch chef Lucas Jeffries – who works at the InStock restaurant which fights against food waste- and Danish chef Martin Jacobsen – who works at the Kadeau and the Nabo restaurants. The surplus food will include imperfect fruits and vegetables and any food that would have been wasted because it did not fit the supermarkets’ expectations (sometimes just because of a misplaced tag). The guests will have the opportunity to take the leftovers home in biodegradable boxes.

About hosting the dinner, Henk Swarttouw said: “During the last 10 years, the Danish consumers are starting to become aware of the gigantic food waste in Denmark, which annually reaches 700.000 tonnes. It’s also important to get all the decision makers onboard the agenda – and that is why we are hosting this dinner; to activate and inspire Denmark’s leading key stakeholders, who can anchor the agenda in their respective organizations and projects.”

As always, you can read more about the Stop Wasting Food Movement here and I’ll have a way more detailed post on November 13th.

Now catching up quickly on Marie’s last event. She attended a Fire & Rescue team training exercise at Copenhagen Airport on October 26th. The aim of the exercise was to prepare the team to intervene as quickly and as efficiently as possible.

Marie has been working with the Danish Emergency Management Agency as a special project assistant since June 2016 and her main focus is prevention. After the exercise, Marie had the opportunity to meet with the team and to visit the Vilhelm Lauritzen Terminal. The court released a short video.

I can’t tell you much about her outfit other that she wore her old double-breasted By Malene Birger coat and new Joseph ‘Frida’ ankle boots.

Princess Marie had an event scheduled for November 8th in Glasgow, Scotland but it was taken off the calendar and the Court hasn’t given any explanation yet. We should see Prince Joachim and Princess Marie in Braine, France on November 11th but that won’t be confirmed by the Court until tomorrow’s official calendar update. Until then, Princess Marie’s next confirmed event is the International Stop Wasting Food Dinner on November 13th.

Princess Marie in Kolding to meet with Barack Obama and visit the ‘The Splendour of Power’

On Friday, Princess Marie was in Kolding to attend a special conference with President Barack Obama at the University of South Denmark.

Former President Barack Obama took part in a moderated Q & A conversation for an audience of business leaders, university students, and local dignitaries during the ‘ A conversation with President Barack Obama’ event. The event was by invitation only, and Princess Marie works closely with the University of South Denmark to develop new programs for international students, so it is natural that she was invited.

Princess Marie had the opportunity to meet with Barack Obama backstage and they took a photo. Afterward, Marie left SDU and went to Koldinghus where she had lunch with the director Thomas C. Thulstrup and the director of the French jewelry house Mauboussin, Olivier Galtié.

Several items from the Danish Royal Family were loaned to the exhibition such as Queen Margrethe’s Greenlandic Diadem, Queen Anne-Marie’s Cartier Wedding Tiara, Princess Benedikte’s Floral Tiara, Crown Princess Mary’s Midnight Tiara, and Princess Marie’s Légion d’Honneur medal.

More about the exhibition from their press release: “The exhibition showcases a selection of magnificent and unique Danish and European pieces to illustrate the ability of jewelry to capture our fascination and act as statements of shifting power structures over the past 750 years.”

Princess Marie debuted her new tiara created by Mauboussin on 28th August at the gala dinner hosted in honor of French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron during the French state visit to Denmark. The tiara is owned by Mauboussin, but they accepted to loan the tiara to ‘The Splendour of Power’ exhibition. They officially added the tiara to the exhibition on Friday hence why Marie and Mauboussin’s director visited.

After the exhibition, Princess Marie said to Billed-Bladet that it was a lovely exhibition. You can see a short video here.

Prince Joachim and Princess Marie visit Varde’s military school

On Wednesday, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie carried out their first official joint engagement since the end of their summer holidays. They were in Varde to visit Haerens Sergentskole, a military school.

Haerens Sergentskole was celebrating its 108th birthday with a full military parade. Prince Joachim attended in his quality of Colonel in the Reserve of the Army but also as a former student! Indeed, this year is also the 30th anniversary of Prince Joachim’s graduation from Haerens Sergentskole.

30 years later, it is now the turn of Prince Joachim’s eldest son Prince Nikolai to be a student of Haerens Sergentskole. Indeed, he started his two-year studies on August 1st. Prince Nikolai took part in the parade but as promised by the Court and the school, he was treated like any regular student. It must have been special for both Joachim and Nikolai when Joachim reviewed the troops and Nikolai was in the first row.

When asked by Billed-Bladet how she felt about seeing her stepson in uniform for the first time, Princess Marie said : “It was touching. We were very proud.”

Prince Joachim made a personal speech at the event, recalling his time as a student at the school during the Cold War but also giving some advice for the current student: “The eight months at school did something to us. We learned to take and bear responsibility – not just for ourselves but also for others. It is not necessarily something that is easy for a young man under the age of 20. […]It’s not wrong to fail here. We all make mistakes. But those who make the difference are those who develop and learn from their mistakes”

Princess Marie wore a new outfit for this very special but serious event. She debuted a new navy Emporio Armani blazer. Emporio Armani (and Armani in general) is definitely one of Marie’s favorite brands so it is no surprise that after a short break from all things Armani (she wore a lot of Ganni and MICHAEL Michael Kors instead), she would go back to the brand.

Marie’s new dress is the ‘Dinoma’ watercolor floral sheath dress by Hugo Boss (with thanks to Katrina for the find). The ‘Dinoma’ dress is also owned by Queen Letizia of Spain in two different prints.

Marie accessorized with her By Malene Birger navy suede and leather d’Orsay pumps and her Longchamp x Kate Moss matching clutch. The brooch she wore on her jacket is reportedly a gift from Queen Margrethe after the birth of Princess Athena in 2012. Marie first wore it at Athena’s christening.

Princess Marie visits ‘Ready to Start’ and the Youth Education Center

On Friday, Princess Marie visited a project sponsored by the National Association for Autism as Patron as well as the Youth Education Center.

The project ‘Ready to Start’ which aims to help young autistic people getting a job was created in collaboration with the Youth Foundation who helps autistic people since 2007: ‘ ‘Ready to Start’ is a graduation process targeted at the majority of young people with an autism diagnosis. The course is conducted throughout the country in cooperation with a number of educational institutions and partner companies, offering nothing less than job guarantee for the course participants.’

Several Danish companies have accepted to collaborate with the ‘Ready to Start’ program – including Fakta and ILVA – ensuring that every person taking part in the program will have a job in the end.

As Patron of the National Association for Autism since 2011, Princess Marie visited the Fakta store where two young autistic people got a job thanks to the ‘Ready to Start’ program. These two people explained to Princess Marie how important it was for them to have a job, to be a part of the workforce and to meet new people in their everyday life. Since the beginning of the collaboration between Fakta and the ‘Ready to Start’ program,  70 autistic people have been employed at a national level in the chain’s stores.

After her visit to the Fakta store, Princess Marie visited the Youth Education Center -created by the Youth Foundation- where she took part in the graduation ceremony of six students. She then had the opportunity to learn more about the various activities in the education center.

You can see a photo of Marie’s full outfit here and a video of Marie at the event here.

For these events, Princess Marie wore one of her classic outfits. The jacket is old and still UFO but she wore a new blue top by Tara Jarmon. It seems like Tara Jarmon is becoming one of her regular brands now.

She wore black pants with her By Malene Birger grey pumps and her very old UFO clutch.

Marie also wore the brooch she first wore at Prince Henrik’s funeral. I can’t help but wonder if maybe it was a gift from Prince Henrik but unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll ever get confirmation of the origin of the brooch. It seems that she also wore her Christine Hvelplund ‘H&A’ necklace.

A research seminar on allergies at H.C Andersen Children Hospital and a new campaign against land mines for Princess Marie !

Today, Princess Marie was in Odense to visit the H.C Andersen Children Hospital. Princess Marie works closely with the hospital since 2013 and she makes a lot of visits each year, the latest one being a private visit in December 2017.

Princess Marie first visited the Asthma School. Nurse Anne Marie Bro Hofbauer explains: “The purpose of Odense Asthma School is to give the children a greater understanding of the disease and the medicine they receive, but also to show them that they can do much more than they think. They can run longer and jump higher than they thought. Most importantly, they live a very ordinary and active life, just like all other children and young people. We try to help them.”

  • “Can a ‘grass tablet’ prevent asthma?” by Professor Susanne Halken
  • Presentation of the Odense Asthma School of Nurse Anne Marie Bro Hofbauer
  • “Participation in trials – viewed from the parents’ point of view” by Bente Lassere, parent of children who participated in the research project GAP

Finally, Princess Marie visited Ællingen which is a playground for children from 6 to 12 years old run by young volunteers from Red Cross Hungary. Ællingen is opened two afternoons a week for all children, whether they are patients or relatives of a patient. Ællingen aims to give the children independent and fun experiences independent of illness, diagnosis and parents.

Princess Marie wore a new IRO jacket today! The ‘Awa’ jacket is a belted wool-blend jacket with leather trims on the inside. It is not the first time Marie has worn this French brand. She wore another IRO jacket in 2015.

She wore a black short sleeve top with black trousers and UFO black ankle boots that she first wore last year. Her snakeskin bag is also new and it is by Mauro Orietti Carella, the former designer of Zagliani, one of Marie’s favorite brands.

In other news, Princess Marie as Patron of DanChurchAid is taking part in their campaign for the removing of landmines and unexploded munitions. She filmed a video message to support their work :

Here is the translation of her message: DanChurchAid is focusing on the important work of clearing mines. Every year, more than 2000 people die from landmines and unexploded ammunition. But mines do not kill people only. Landmines maintain millions of men in poverty and prevent reconstruction and development. Landmines make it impossible to cultivate the earth and thus provide food to thousands of families.Landmines prevent children from giving safe to and from school. They prevent children from playing freely and just being children.
That is why I support the efforts of the DanChurchAid in removing land mines with the victims and the teaching of how to avoid landmines.”

She wore a new turtleneck top from By Malene Birger. It features a side slit so I really hope Marie will wear it again so that we can see it fully!

We’ll next see Princess Marie on Monday when she will attend the launch of new teaching materials against food waste by the Copenhagen Municipality.
