Tonight, Queen Margrethe hosted a gala dinner for members of the Government, members of the Danish Parliament and Danish members of the European Parliament. Crown Princess Mary, Prince Joachim, Princess Marie, and Princess Benedikte were in attendance. Crown Prince Frederik could not attend as he is currently in Sydney, Australia where he is attending the Invictus Games.
This dinner is held once during each parliamentary term so every four years at Christiansborg Palace which is the Palace where the Danish Parliament is. The first gala was held 60 years ago in 1958.
It was hosted by King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid. Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik followed this tradition once she became Queen in 1972 and they even created a tradition of their own following the same pattern. Indeed, since 1976, a gala dinner for important members of Danish arts and culture is held every four years, reflecting the late Prince Henrik’s passion for art.
During this evening, the guests first greet the members of the royal family one by one before enjoying dinner and music.
The soprano Signe Sneh Durholm and the pianist Peter Mollerhoj performed before a surprise appearance by comedian Soren Ostergaards who appeared as his character “Smadremanden” and provided a lot of entertainment for all the guests.
You can see a video of the arrival of the guests and the royal family here.
Princess Marie wore a fully recycled outfit. She wore a modified version of the black Ole YDE gown she debuted during the State Visit from Iceland to Denmark in January 2017. This time, the sleeves were longer than the first time she wore it.
She paired the gown with jewels from her favorite Danish jeweler Christine Hvelplund. She had owned the earrings and the bracelet for a while now and we see them often. She chose the same jewels back in 2017. She also wore a ring but I haven’t seen any good close up so I can’t say anything about it.
She decided to carry her ufo silver clutch and she wore the same black patent leather pumps as in 2017 and they are also ufo.
Princess Marie’s next event is on Friday when she’ll meet with Preparedness Units at Copenhagen Airport. There will be no press access but we may get information and photos from social media.
Tonight, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie , along with Crown Princess Mary, attended a gala dinner hosted by Queen Margrethe in honor of the Army at Fredensborg Palace.
This gala takes place every three year and honors the soldiers receiving the King Christian X Medal for Good Service awarded to soldiers with more than 25 years of service. The award was created on September 26th 1945, on King Christian X’s birthday, and is awarded on the same day each year.
When they arrived, Prince Joachim told photographers he was looking forward to the evening as he works in the military himself. Indeed, he works daily a special advisor on developing a new full-force concept that will strengthen the use of volunteers in the Home Guard and personnel of the reserve, without being paid obviously, and he is Colonel in the Reserve.
Here are videos of the arrival :
For this gala dinner, Princess Marie looked absolutely gorgeous in her new black gown from Danish designer Ole Yde. The gown was presented in pink in the designers’s Fall 2016 Collection.
She paired the dress with her trusted Bally shoes (first worn in 2012) and her old UFO clutch from 2010 with her favorite Christine Hvelplund earrings and bracelet.
We’ll next see Prince Joachim and Princesse Marie on October 3rd for the Opening of Parliament !
Today is Princess Athena’s 5th birthday! Princess Athena is Prince Joachim and Princess Marie’s second child. She has three older brothers, Princes Nikolai, Felix and Henrik. Kongehuset released three photos taken by Princess Marie.
Today was also the start of the State Visit from Iceland to Denmark that will end on the 26th. Usually , the entire royal family welcomes the Presidential couple at the airport but the President and First Lady of Iceland arrived in Copenhagen last night so they were officially welcomed to Denmark by Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik at Amalienborg Palace at 10:00.
The couple then met with Denmark’s Prime Minister at Christianborg Palace. In the afternoon, the Royal couple and the Presidential couple attended events in the Palace. Tomorrow, the Presidential couple will spend the day with Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary.
We will see Marie at two events related to the state visits, as usual. The first is tonight’s gala dinner and the second is the farewell reception tomorrow. For tonight’s gala dinner, she wore a new black dress with her old UFO velvet clutch and her old black pumps.
The new gown was custom by Danish designer Ole Yde. The brand thought “she looked radiant in it”. This is the fourth Ole Yde gown worn by Princess Marie since 2013. She also wore her wedding tiara with her Christine Hvelplund earrings and a new Christine Hvelplund bracelet.
